Home Based Intervention
Through Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), social skills therapies, and other proven teaching methodologies, BIS works with children and adults in their home environments, providing comprehensive and professional service to maximize their individual potential. Our objective with home-based services is to strike a balance in the home for families through skillful and compassionate intervention services, as well as provide a link between home programs and education through tutoring and school support.
Community Based Instructions
BIS promotes direct involvement in the community for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. We offer community-based instruction, developing and implementing appropriate instruction that encourages independence within the local community. With patience, care and support, we assist individuals with special needs via job training and mentoring. Our trained and experienced staff work with individuals on social skill acquisition and development, self-help and vocational skills, safety issues and behavior management.
Supported Independent Living Program
Individualized Supported Living (ISL) Services are only available to persons who participate in the Comprehensive Waiver. This is a non-facility based form of residential habilitation which provides support and training services to an individual in his or her own residence. ISL allows individuals with even the most severe disabilities the opportunity for community living.
Individuals may live alone or with their family or may share a living arrangement with others. When living arrangements are shared, no more than three individuals with disabilities may reside together and qualify for ISL services.
The ISL service model provides consumers maximum involvement in developing and carrying out their own service pans. Also, training and support are provided on-site in the home or in the community, thereby allowing functional skill development to occur in the real life settings where the skills will be used.
For more information on ISL development, please contact the ISL Director.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) / Behavior Modification
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science in which procedures derived from the principles of behavior are systematically applied to improve socially significant behavior to a meaningful degree and to demonstrate experimentally that the procedures employed were responsible for the improvement in behavior. Research has documented that ABA is an effective method for teaching and increasing a wide variety of valuable skills and reducing problem behavior for individuals with autism and related disorders.
BIS is committed to providing quality ABA services to help improve the lives of children and their families. The systematic method for assessment and intervention allows BIS staff to identify "why" a child engages in maladaptive behaviors and develop the most successful strategies to teach new skills. With the use of behavior plans and consultation/training, parents and other professional are taught how to utilize ABA principles so that a child can be successful across environments and individuals in their life.
